The Admiralteyskaya Embankment
The Admiralteyskaya Embankment is one of the best places in Voronezh for a leisurely stroll or a romantic evening, especially in the summer. It is not just another pretty embankment, however, but a major historic site, as this is where Russian navy was originally built. This was the starting point of a long journey of such famous Russian battleships as “Svyatoy Mark” (“Saint Mark”), “Printsipium”, “SvyatoyMatvey” (Saint Mathew) and the first Russian ship-of-the-line “GotoPredestinatsiya” (GotoPredestination), whose replica now is here as a boat museum. All of them following a Russian tradition were baptized here in Uspenskaya church, constructed in 1702 on Peter the First’s orders and intact since then.
In 1996 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Russian navy a new monument appeared here – snow white columns and a stella, creating a perfect background for wedding pictures. In the summer the embankment often hosts large outdoor concerts and festivals. Here you can also take a ferry ride along the river, the ferry departing daily until dark.
